Killer Mermaid The Movie

Rating: Okay, it says NR (not rated) on amazon, but I would rate this R!
Runtime: 1 hour 35 min.

Summary(amazon.com):
Two young women go on a Mediterranean vacation and uncover the watery lair of a killer mermaid hidden beneath an abandoned military fortress.

My Review:
Since Halloween is this month, I wanted to review another scary mermaid movie! When I first saw the trailer for this, I was intrigued. There aren't a lot of scary mermaid movies out there. Sadly, this movie was very predictable.

For the first half of the movie, the plot flat-lined, and I was waiting for something exciting to happen. This movie also follows the typical "you know who's going to survive last" plot line; usually the smartest person with the most skills.

However, despite the not-so-great writing, the mermaid was so cool! And beautiful :)
Take a look!

I don't recommend this movie. Instead, for a good Halloween/scary mermaid movie, I would watch She Creature, which I reviewed! I give this movie (**) 2 stars.

She Creature The Movie

Run Time: 91 minutes
Rated R: warning! This has a lot of sexual scenes and gore! Do not watch if you are sensitive to either one!

Summary(amazon.com):
This surprisingly satisfying horror movie centers on a mermaid--but it's hardly one of the giggly types from Peter Pan. Rufus Sewell and Carla Gugino play a couple of small-time circus people who discover that an eccentric old man keeps a genuine mermaid in a water-filled tank. Dreaming of an invitation from Ringling Bros., Sewell steals the mermaid and loads her on a ship for America. But in the middle of the Atlantic, the hungry mermaid shows her darker side--and Gugino learns that she may be linked to the mermaid in unexpected ways. She Creature was no doubt made on a low budget, but it looks excellent and the above-average script gives the strong cast firm ground to stand on. The mermaid herself (Rya Kihlsted) is both lovely and eerie. All in all, an enjoyable homage to classic horror films. --Bret Fetzer

Ugh! Talk about ugly!
This is a figurine from the movie
of the mermaid!
My Review:
I have to say, when I first picked this DVD up from the library, I was a bit blown away at how sinister the movie sounded, and looked! But I do admit, it made for an interesting movie! Although it was one of those B-rated horror movies, the special effects were actually phenomenal! The mermaid's tail was incredible! The acting too, was quite good. The mermaid, played by Rya Kihlsted put on a really amazing performance. I mean, she just oozed evil! The only complaint I do have about this movie is that like most horror movies made now, there is a bit of sex that goes on. There actually is a sex scene in the movie, and the mermaids breasts are exposed in almost every scene that she is in. In addition, there is obviously gore, so if you don't feel comfortable with either theme, then this movie isn't for you. However, for a b-rated horror movie that included a mermaid, I think it was a pretty interesting concept. I give this movie (****) 4 stars.

Ugly tail, in my opinion.
But its a horror movie!
Great effects though!
